Terribad
This semester seems both slow and fast at the same time. I feel like I've learned a lot in my classes, specifically Data Structures and Algorithms. This is the first time in a long time in which I've enjoyed my math class (Discrete Math for CS) and found useful applications of what I've learned. I've taken two 1-credit hour classes and both seem like I've never been there since it only meets one time a week.
Over Spring break I finally assembled my Linux server. I'm lazy and just threw Ubuntu on it because it only hosts torrents and shares files through the house. I configured Hamachi on it (an older version) but have had trouble configuring LogMeIn on my Macbook so I can access remotely. I might use my router (WRT54G running DD-WRT) and create my own VPN instead (yay for static IP addresses).
I've been blogging (sadly not enough) for gooddroidbaddroid.com too. Check that out.
Also check out this awesome music I just found, called MOON8. It's a fantastic cover of Dark Side of the Moon in 8-bit.
Today I Learned Things
Apparently the proper pronunciation of 'sudo' is "Sue Due" as in Super User Do. I have been saying "Sue Dough" my entire life. I wonder how many Unix mainframe neckbeards I have accidentally offended.
Here's an audio recording of Hunter S. Thompson getting angry at crappy customer service.
Summer Goals
Being unemployed gives me a lot of time. Aside from waking up at noon, I am trying to accomplish things this summer. I figure that I might as well make an itemized list of things I will complete.
1. Make a dedicated Linux box with Subversion.
2. Learn to use Subversion properly.
3. Utilize Subversion on all of my new projects / documents / notes.
4. Embrace gdb.
5. Take more photos.
6. Play bass more.
More to come..
openSUSE 10.3 | laptop running!
Finally got my install of openSUSE 10.3 running on my laptop in full functionality. Boy, was it easy! The hardest part had to be actually opening my dvd drive and inserting the disk. The new live installation interface is slick, pretty much took all the guesswork out of it, resized my partitions and installed / configured GRUB to dual boot with Windows XP. After a quick download of my wireless card's firmware and a bit of fiddling with Ndiswrapper, I got it running on wireless. I've configured my print shares and done my updates, and its running smooth. Battery life seems to have increased from XP, I'm getting about 1.5 hours on my old-ass battery (3 years old). Another significant thing is that I've finally made the switch from GNOME to KDE, and I'm enjoying it so far. KDE just looks nice on this system, and has been running smoothly.
Anyways, not much else to update at this time. Work sucks, school sucks (my fault), and the family life is a mess. Hopefully things will get better after Thanksgiving.
Peace.
