End of January

About 1/4 done with this semester. Running a bit behind because I was sick this week. My birthday was uneventful, but fun. It was nice to hang out with friends. I still can't seem to keep on task for anything, I'm beginning to believe that I have some full blown ADD problems. Oh well.

Here's a picture to describe my ability to stay on task.

This semester has been insane.  I'm still unemployed.  I've been really full up on homework every night.  I'm working with two of my classmates to create an online recipe management system using Java and MySQL.  It's not that complex but we're utilizing proper systems analysis and design techniques the whole way, which is fun (kinda).  I'm also learning assembly language in my computer architecture course.  We're designing a CPU emulator for some scientific robots.  My non-major classes are interesting as well.  I think currently I'm carrying all A's, or close to that figure.

Student Government Association is going well, I believe we'll actually accomplish some good things this year, so keep your eyes peeled to events around IUSB if you attend.  We're hoping to get a revised smoking ban that will designate a smoking area on campus instead of a campus-wide ban that isn't enforced.  We're working on getting more 24 hour study spaces, beefing up security around the school, and improving the way advising is done across campus.

I've also been working with some other students in starting a radio station on campus.  Actually having a broadcast frequency on FM radio is a pipe dream at the moment but we're working on getting an internet stream up and potentially having a 1 credit hour class next semester, which would grab some much needed support from the administration.

I've been too busy to keep up with some of my favorite hobbies.  My bass is collecting dust in the corner of my room, my blog has been neglected, and my camera has sat with an empty memory card for a few weeks (although I did take some pictures today).

No one else has been blogging either though, I suppose they are busy as well.

School is started and I’ve neglected this as usual

Here's a song which you probably have heard before, or at least the Coolio version.

Hopefully this isn't what people who read my blog think of me.  I spent last weekend in Chicago with Kate, Laurie and her sister MG were staying over as well for Lollapalooza.  It was fun, but too short.  Kate and I didn't actually go to Lolla due to lack of interest in the lineup (the loss of Beastie Boys was a real kicker).  I'll buy some presale tickets for 60 bucks this year so I can go without feeling guilty for paying the $200 for the three day pass.

Summer has gone by far too quickly.  I've done some fun things, gone to a few concerts and completed some projects.  School starts on August 31st and I've got a solid schedule ahead of me.

School’s back in session

Well, spring break is over. Sucks. It's still cold as hell here, but starting to look a little more like spring. I've been working on my computer science classes pretty hardcore. I'm starting to feel progression in my programming competence. According to this I think I'm somewhere between stage 2 and 3. I still don't think that I could work a CS job full time right now. I need to get my feet wet in real-world programming experience. I've been looking at some F/OSS projects but haven't been able to find one with stuff to do around my skill level or language competency. Hopefully I'll get some sort of internship or I'll work on the Google summer of code stuff.

In other news, this is a pretty helpful read: How to write fast code

update

well life is a turd lately.  i've got a lot of work to do before the end of the semester, alot of money to pay off by the end of the summer, and a whole lack of motivation.  lately i just want to sit on my ass and read.  i've re-read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.  both great books, and i'm glad that i've re-read them.  i should start on Oil! by Upton Sinclair today, which is convenient because There Will Be Blood comes out on DVD today.

thank god the weather is nice, otherwise i might just go crazy.
